MISSION

Ripe Time is a theatre company devoted to producing ensemble driven theatre infused with rich language, visual power and physical rigor. We create performance that pulls from both dance and theatre, developing work collaboratively with our ensemble of artists over extended development periods. Our work ranges from company-created original works, to new adaptations of novels or stories, to dynamic stagings of classic plays. We believe in the extraordinary potential of a dynamic ensemble to offer audiences new and engaging perspectives on the world around us.

exchange
Shape Shifting is an annual salon conceived and co-hosted by Rachel Dickstein, Artistic Director of Ripe Time, and Emily Morse, New Dramatists’ Director of Artistic Development. It exemplifies Ripe Time’s longstanding interest in creating a dialogue around issues of adaptation with other contemporary artists who approach this challenge in different ways.  The salon series was launched in 2008 with “Shape Shifting: Contemporary Women Playwrights Re-Imagine Homer, Shakespeare, and Chekhov,” a series of readings and conversations with award-winning women playwrights exploring the politics and aesthetics of adaptation.  In 2008 “Antigone in Action” featured short pieces created by a diverse array of artists and activists across disciplines in response to Sophocles’ Antigone.  This collaboration with New Dramatists continues Ripe Time’s Exchange series, a program committed to promoting conversation about form and craft in contemporary theatre-making.
